“Florida’s Citizens Property Insurance Makes Major Change”
Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About
Air Date Monday, September 28, 2026
Some of you listening today may have your home insured with the State of Florida’s property insurer of last resort, Citizens Insurance.
If you do, please listen up.
Beginning in January, if you have a single-family home insured with Citizens Property Insurance, you’ll need to obtain an additional, separate flood insurance policy.
It doesn’t matter whether you're currently in a flood zone; all single-family Citizens’ homes must carry a flood policy.
If you’re not in a flood zone, I suggest you check other Florida property insurance companies for lower premiums.
That said, more people are obtaining flood coverage in non-flood zones after witnessing the flood damage from two West Coast hurricanes that hit a couple of years ago in unexpected areas.
Flood coverage gives you peace of mind.
