Puerto Rico’s hurricane devastation is staggering.
As a U. S. Territory its residents are citizens entitled both to vote and receive the same hurricane assistance as any other American.
I-4’s corridor is home to a significant number of Puerto Ricans who have scores of devastated family and friends on the island.
And that fact is why there’s another reason to help and stabilize the people of Puerto Rico.
Governor Scott is keenly aware of that reality and traveled to the island with his experts to assist in recovery planning. How Scott responds to Puerto Rico’s disaster represents an important piece of his political future.
Florida’s Puerto Rican voting bloc will no doubt grow due to the exodus arriving here seeking economic opportunity.
And that reality both here and at the White House is another reason to know that help is on the way.
