The unexpected high stakes drama of a Senate Judiciary Confirmation hearing began day one on Monday.
Distinguished U. S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit Judge Amy Coney Barrett returned to a Senate Judiciary Chamber that she remembers all too well.
It was there Democrat Senator Diane Feinstein attacked Barrett’s Catholic faith, mocking her with “The Dogma lives loudly in you, and that’s a concern.”
For day one, the opening statements by Senate Democrats were all orchestrated around the future of Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act, that Judge Barrett cannot comment on because it is an issue coming before the high court.
Judge Barrett has weathered this gauntlet before. She’s battle-tested.
And I trust she’ll be confirmed to take her seat on the U. S. Supreme Court.
