“Lebanon: Humanitarian Disaster Not Seen Since WWII ”
Bill Bunkley with Something To Think About
While I was traveling throughout Lebanon news broke that the ISIS stronghold in Raqqa, Syria had finally been defeated by Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic forces and US-led coalition.
Pictures emerging from Raqqa on CNN International reminded me of Berlin after the Allied Liberation: complete and total destruction.
I was in Lebanon as a guest of the Christian aid organization “Heart for Lebanon” to get a firsthand look at some of the 2.1 million refugees who have fled there. They’ve run for their lives from ISIS in both Iraq and Syria and the deadly Syrian Civil War.
I met refugees from cities in the headlines: Mosul, Falluja, Aleppo, Raqqa, Homs, and others.
What I saw was a humanitarian disaster not witnessed since World War II.
And with Raqqa and other cities totally destroyed, who knows where these millions of refugees will go from here.
