Manatee County was the center of discussion in Tallahassee, and the attention wasn’t positive, to say the least.

Along with the arrest of a Florida State Phi Delta Theta fraternity member for trafficking cocaine, Manatee is the most talked about area of Florida when it comes to drug abuse.

Shocking data came before both the Florida House of Representatives Health Quality and Children, Families & Seniors Subcommittees indicating disturbing spikes in deaths due to fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine overdoses.

And carfentanyl is out there, similar in structure to fentanyl, that’s a mind-boggling 10,000 times more potent than morphine, making it the most potent commercially abused opioid.

Doctor prescribed opioids, when those scripts run out, are a major gateway driving addicted Floridians to the streets for their illegal opioid fix.

I look forward to proposals in the 2018 legislative session to combat this scourge on Florida.
