It is always a great encouragement when an elected official demonstrates good character and strong leadership.
During the government shutdown, Plant City’s U.S. Senator Ashley Moody pledged to return her salary during the shutdown to a local charitable organization.
On November 25, Senator Moody honored that promise by giving her shutdown salary to The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.
As Florida’s former local Attorney General, she’s well aware of the Center's excellent work in saving lives.
Too bad that not all 100 members of the U.S. Senate and 435 members of the House didn’t make a similar pledge to return their shutdown salaries to local worthy organizations.
Moody’s actions only further demonstrate her heart, of which many of us locally already know.
Bill Bunkley is a 20-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs on weekdays from 3 to 5 pm across central Florida. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Convention Churches), among other churches and entities. He has served as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention for the last 29 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee. By the Grace of his Lord Jesus, he is a cancer survivor diagnosed in 2018 with AML Leukemia, having successfully undergone a bone marrow transplant that same year. In 2026, he underwent successful open-heart surgery to repair a heart valve. His wife is Toni, his son is Zac, and he attends Idlewild Baptist Church.
