History and civics are important lessons that have become deemphasized in public schools.

Our children, the leaders of tomorrow, need to know and understand history, so mistakes of the past aren’t repeated, and to know how a representative republic based on the principle of democracy functions.

Governor Ron DeSantis has announced an important initiative to require a civics test for high school seniors that must be passed for them to graduate.

DeSantis said that Florida students need to be prepared for citizenship. Some skills a student learns in school may never be used, others will be. But all students, regardless of what they choose to do in life, must learn how to exercise their duties as citizens.

So true.

I’m in total agreement with Governor DeSantis’ initiative.
