“New TikTok Challenge a Threat on Florida Beaches”

One of the best experiences in Florida is exploring our miles of beaches. This summer, thousands of tourists from all over the world travel to Florida, and an after-dark beach stroll is popular with visitors and locals.

For now, I recommend taking along a flashlight for that moonlight beach walk.

That’s because another dangerous TikTok challenge is out there, putting you and nesting sea turtles at risk.

The TikTok challenge is to go to the beach and see how deep a hole you can dig.

Big holes are popping up everywhere. They are not filled back in when the diggers are done. On Sanibel Island last weekend, holes were up to 5 feet deep and 4 feet wide.

It poses a serious issue for nighttime beach walkers and confuses sea turtles coming to shore to nest.

A nasty fall could cut short your dream vacation.
