One of America’s flagship stocks, one that has been very generous to shareholders including newly created millionaires over the decades, announced the unimaginable this week: They will experience a huge miss in Quarter 1 sales expectations.
The stock, Apple.
Apple CEO Tim Cook’s announcement rattled the folks around Manhattan’s Wall and Broad in New York. Markets and investors around the global shuttered in disbelief.
Welcome, 2019.
An economic slowdown in China, tensions over U. S. and China trade policy, and a $1,000 overpriced new Chinese iPhone, in my opinion, set off the near global market panic.
Chinese consumers are bucking the trend to buy and flash around the latest iPhone, opting to make do with older versions.
I wonder if the Chinese contagion will spread globally.
