Just as we entered into the Hanukkah, Christmas, and the Near Year holidays, the South African Omicron variant exploded across the globe and right here in America.
Fortunately, though Omicron is very highly contagious, its symptoms and severity are far less than the Delta strain we've been dealing with.
The good news is that this variant may be peaking here in Florida in the next couple of days. The bad news is that scientists and researchers may not find a way to eradicate it, which means we could be looking at recommendations for annual flu-type shots each fall.
That will only prolong the debate about vaccinations, possibly for years ahead. And whatever new plague that comes along in the future with a vaccine protocol will surely be scrutinized more closely than COVID-19.
