The Legislative Session is underway as Governor Rick Scott delivered his final Florida State of the State Address. For the next 60 days, legislators will consider thousands of bills.
One bill heard in committee on opening day is this year’s texting and driving legislation. Sponsored by Tampa State Rep Jackie Toledo and Delray Beach’s Emily Slosberg, texting and driving would rise to a primary offense.
Currently, law enforcement cannot pull over solely for texting and driving, it’s a secondary offense.
If House Bill 33 becomes law, texting and driving becomes a primary offense whereby the cops can pull you over for texting.
Most of us are guilty of texting and driving in the last 30 days. Lives have been lost, scores more injured.
It’s time to step up and be accountable if you choose to text and drive.
