"Miami’s Freedom Tower Makes History Again”

Governor Ron DeSantis chose Miami’s Freedom Tower to announce his appointment of Barbra Lagoa to Florida’s Supreme Court. The tower served as the processing center for Cubans fleeing Fidel Castro.
Miami born Judge Lagoa lives in Hialeah, serving on the 3rd District Court of Appeals. She’ll be the first female Hispanic justice and one of three candidates I recommended to the governor.
Lagoa commented “I am particularly mindful of the fact that under our constitutional system it is for the legislature and not the courts to make the law. It is the role of judges to apply, not to alter, the work of the peoples’ representatives, and it is the role of judges to interpret our Constitution and statutes as they are written.”
