“A Timeless Lesson”

Today is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It's a day to reflect on civil rights and race relations in America.

I wonder what the Alabama Baptist pastor, best remembered for nonviolence and peaceful dialog, would say if he were still among us. 

Many will evoke his legacy and speak on Dr. King's behalf, but I sense he would not be comfortable with all being claimed in his name. 

Since King's 1968 assassination, there's been much progress in Civil Rights and race relations, though accomplishments in the last few years are disappointing. Much is left to be achieved in some areas of our country.

Dr. King's method of dialog and discussion is more effective than today's attacks between opposing politicians.

The Alabama pastor's approach is a valuable and timeless lesson for all of America today. We would be wise to heed his words.
