“A Bold Legislative Move”

 Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”

Florida legislators are considering over 1,700 proposed bills during the current 60-day session in Tallahassee.

Of all the bills filed, one stands out from all the others: HB 1—the fact that the bill number is 1 ought to tell you something immediately.

HB 1 is a bill that is Palm Coast Republican, Florida House Speaker Paul Renner’s priority legislation.

HB 1 is a bold legislative move that would ban children under age 16 from gaining access to social media platforms. It will be considered by the full House Chamber this week.

No doubt, I agree with the bill that social media harms children.

But…..

META, the mothership of multiple platforms, says the ban is unconstitutional.

If passed and signed by the Governor, it will get tested.

And whether it ultimately stands constitutional muster or not, the message it will send is important.  

Bill Bunkley is an 18-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays across central Florida from 3 to 6 pm.
