As we are wrapping up week number three of the 2022 Legislative Session, things are getting chippy between Republicans and Democrats.
In my mind, it was going to be inevitable this session that passions would run high as the legislature takes up a 15-week abortion ban, banning the teaching of critical race theory, religious freedom for churches to remain open during government orders to the contrary during events such as pandemics and freedom of conscience for doctors and nurses, to name a few.
These issues go to the heart of the many differences in essential policy decisions between the left and right; political divides we see not only in America at large, but right here at home in Florida.
I say open dialog, not personal inferences, is the only way to deliberate delicate public policy decisions.
Bill Bunkley is a 15-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in west-central /Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 24 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee.
