“Mark Zuckerberg, you have blood on your hands,” “You have a product that is killing people,” accused South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham at a U. S. Senate Judiciary hearing on Big Tech child exploitation.
That was in response to the death by suicide of South Carolina State Rep Brandon Guffey’s 17-year-old son, Gavin, who was a victim of extortion on Instagram.
Gavin was in online communication with someone he thought was an attractive girl but was an imposter who lured him into sending nude pictures of himself. After sending, the imposter demanded a large sum of money, or the pictures would be made public.
They kept threatening, and Gavin got so overrun with shame and guilt that he took his life.
These scams happen every day, while the social platforms do nothing.
You cannot sue these platforms.
Congress should change that immediately.
