Governor Ron DeSantis was joined by the Speaker of the House Chris Sprow and Senate President Wilton Simpson to propose a bill this legislative session to impose strict penalties on Big Tech platforms that censor conservative free speech.
Big Tech is more like Big Brother with each passing day, DeSantis declared.
Decisions about evaluating “Free Speech” were once determined by the hearer. The Governor stated that “Now those decisions are increasingly made by nameless, faceless boards of censors.”
The proposed legislative fix stipulates that if a technology company de-platforms a candidate for elected office in Florida during an election, that company will face a $100,000 fine per day until the candidate is put back on the platform.
This bill sends an important message.
Bill Bunkley is a 15-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in west-central Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 PM. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 24 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee.
