“Florida Supreme Court Reviews Abortion Ballot Language Today”

The Florida Supreme Court is holding a hearing today in Tallahassee to decide if the citizens’ proposed abortion rights amendment to the state constitution passes constitutional requirements to clear its appearance on the November ballot. 

I will be in the chamber for the oral arguments.

The proponent’s language is deceptive and undefined in critical areas of the ballot text.

Undefined terms include an unborn baby’s viability, the mother’s health, and healthcare provider.

A baby’s viability is scientifically debatable; the mother’s health could be a headache, not life-threatening, and a healthcare provider could be anyone employed in an abortion facility, not a doctor.

Proponents and opponents will argue their case before the justices for about 40 minutes.

The court should block the abortion amendment from appearing on the ballot.
