The XXIV Olympic Winter Games are officially underway in Beijing, China.
I don’t know about you, but many years of my past anticipation and enthusiasm for watching both summer and winter games competitions have diminished to barely a whimper.
Today the Olympic Games churn out multiple controversies, pushing aside the competition element of the event.
In recent years we’ve endured doping, cheating, transgender, and other distractions that take away from the hard, lifetime training the athletes have invested in attaining Gold Medal status.
Add the narrative of Chinese control, corruption, and propaganda by a host also known for abysmal human rights violations.
Gone forever is enjoying the games solely from the iconic ABC Sports Slogan perspective of “The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.”
Bill Bunkley is a 15-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in west-central /Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 24 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee.
