It is an announcement Tampa’s Frank Morsani had wanted to hear back in the 80’s, that Tampa may finally host Major League Baseball. 

Morsani’s group was bypassed by Major League Baseball when St. Petersburg jumped the line by building a stadium without a team.

That decision and Tropicana Field’s location has been the subject of controversy ever since.

The Rays have finally cried “uncle” and revealed their preference to relocate to Tampa.

Tampa opens up more attendance opportunities from I-75 to the north and south, plus I -4 east including millions of tourists visiting Disneyworld’s area theme parks.

Now it’s up to the “bully pulpits” of both Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn to figure out a non-government financing plan to get it built.

And that will be a very, very heavy lift indeed.
