The Florida Grapefruit League is officially underway as professional baseball’s pitchers and catchers have headed in to report for Spring Training.
Soon position players will be arriving as well; eating, dining and of course getting themselves ready for opening day. It’s a great time to take the kids out for some autographs and face time, and for retirees, it’s hard to imagine a better way to spend a spring afternoon.
But I caution it’s not too early to think about Tampa Bay WITHOUT a team of our own. What would Spring Training 2019 feel if the Tampa Bay Rays didn’t follow it with hometown games?
That’s a real possibility on the mind of Major League Baseball’s executives and owners.
And that eventuality could become reality if we keep kicking the “relocation can” down the road.
