“Foster Care Teens With Nowhere To Pillow Their Heads”
Bill Bunkley With Something To Think About
Hillsborough County has a crisis on its hands. The breakdown of the most important building block of society, the family, is now acutely obvious as parentless teens have not a decent place to pillow their heads.
In Hillsborough, 4,000 children from broken homes are in the foster care system. Difficult older teens, some very unruly, have been sleeping on the floors of agency offices and in vehicles parked overnight at a local WAWA convenience store.
There are more at risk teenagers than available overnight beds.
It’s not enough to point fingers and cancel contracts for agencies who failed these teens.
These teens need to be loved on, cared for and provided for.
If Eckerd Connects’ agencies and state resources cannot fill this void, human traffickers are ready, willing, and able to take these kids in.
