When Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his support for smoking marijuana as part of implementing the voter-approved constitutional amendment, legislative leaders cautioned him “not so fast.”
But fast is what best describes their swift turn around.
Bradenton’s Florida Senate President Bill Galvano and Miami Lakes’ Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Jose Oliva both jointly remarked just a few weeks ago they might not necessarily agree with the governor.
That changed when a Florida House and Senate committee voted this week to approve marijuana smoking.
The Governor gave the leaders until mid-March to approve smoking. If they didn’t act, he would withdraw the state’s lawsuits opposing the smoking issue.
It looks like politics alone is going to rule the outcome of this issue.
