“Please Don’t Move to Tampa; We Are Full”
Governor Ron DeSantis recently confirmed what every driving Floridian already knows; many out-of-state people have flocked to the Sunshine State.
DeSantis reported that in 2022 a whopping 137.6 million visitors visited the state, a 13% rise from 2021 and a 5% rise from pre-pandemic visits in 2019.
In 2022, the net migrations to Florida, which calculates who moved in and out, increased by almost 319,000 people.
There are times when out-of-state license tags outnumber Florida tags in traffic. And just the other night, as I was driving home from the station, I saw a bumper sticker that pleaded, “Please don’t move to Tampa. We are full”.
As a native of Tampa, I remember when we had no traffic backups, and getting around was easy. I admit I sympathize with that bumper sticker.
The word is out about the “Free State of Florida.”
