Spring is in the air, which means Major League Baseball teams are heading to their annual Florida and Arizona practices. After last year’s training cancellation, fans are eager to safely gather outside with the hope of watching the league’s superstars.
But there are a couple of impacts you need to be aware of: COVID-19 protocols will limit fan game attendance to 2,300, and from March 1-13, the games may be shortened to five to seven innings.
In 1889 the Philadelphia Phillies were the first to train in Florida up in Jacksonville. In 1913 Spring Training got rolling in earnest in Florida with the Chicago Cubs practicing in Tampa. And Babe Ruth loved to train in St. Pete.
Fifteen teams will play in thirteen cities in the Florida Grapefruit League.
