Students accessing school buses are increasingly at risk of being struck and killed by a moving vehicle. Distracted drivers in a hurry to beat the impending “School Bus Stop Sign” and red flashing lights are increasingly putting students at risk.  

In the future, big brother could be watching you as you blow by a stopped school bus. If you pass illegally, a photo of your tag will be recorded, followed by a hefty ticket in the mail. 

Florida House Democrat Emily Slosberg of Delray Beach, Fl. is the sponsor of HB 849.

Local school districts would install the cameras. The cost of the camera, reviewing footage and processing the tickets is yet undetermined. As of this moment, there is no Senate companion bill.

So like many other proposed ideas, I predict this one falls short this year.
