It's that time of the year this weekend for the annual kickoff gathering of the NTT IndyCar Series street race in downtown St. Petersburg.

This is the 20^th year that the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg showcases the city worldwide.

And when the signal is given to “Start Your Engines,” the distinctive sounds of IndyCar engines won’t be the only engines revving up.

The economic race engine that will significantly benefit the downtown economy is estimated to be more than $60 million.

200,000 race patrons are expected to line the winding streets of the racecourse.

Great winter weather with plenty of sun all weekend long will greet the fans, so if you are planning to attend, take lots of sunscreen.

Be sure to catch the action on the left-right tight “chicane” turns and the quick acceleration passes on the straightaways.

Bill Bunkley is a 19-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays across central Florida from 3 to 6 pm.
