“Governor DeSantis Warned Disney”
Governor Ron DeSantis made good on his promise to punish Walt Disney World for interfering with a bill last session that protected young public-school children from sexually explicit, sexual orientation classroom material and instruction.
For decades Disney benefitted from a sweetheart deal that no other theme park had: a special self-governing, self-serving taxing district.
Reedy Creek is the district created way back in 1967. It gave self-control to Disney over issues such as land use, fire protection, and sewer services typically handled by local governing bodies.
When Disney began its public opposition against the bill, DeSantis warned the then-CEO, who later got fired over it, that it would not go well for them if Disney kept opposing the bill.
The governor just returned Reedy Creek to public oversight, justly so.
