The Florida Legislature began the 2021 sixty-day Session yesterday in Tallahassee. One of the highlights of the opening day was Governor Ron DeSantis’ State of the State address before a joint session of the House & Senate.
The Governor was very confident and upbeat about how Florida has found its way through the COVID-19 pandemic. Florida has been open for business and education for quite some time, and DeSantis declared it would stay that way under his watch, no matter what Washington has to say about it.
He also reiterated that he was right to make the COVID vaccine initially available to first responders and our senior citizen population. Many seniors are alive today because of that priority.
It was a message effectively setting the conservative tone for the Republican session.
Bill Bunkley is a 15-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in west-central Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 24 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee.
