“2025 Legislation Session Begins Tomorrow”

After several weeks of tumultuous legislative special sessions on immigration reform in Florida, the committee meeting process leading up to the 2025 Legislative Session accomplished little in considering proposed legislation for the new year.

The 60-day regular session begins tomorrow, with a backlog of bills waiting to be heard. That reality could mean fewer bills will be passed, something conservatives favoring less government would embrace.

However, notwithstanding the Republicans' supermajority in the Florida Senate and House, this session will be contentious. The Republicans will challenge Governor DeSantis's legislative wish list like no other session in the last six years.

Add with override votes regarding last year’s state budget and you’ll see added friction between the legislative and executive branches.  

Party unity is in the balance.
