“Parental Rights & School Moment of Silence Moving in Florida Legislature”

Bill Bunkley with Something to Think About

The Florida Legislature got underway with the 2021 60-day Legislative Session. Two proposed bills moving early indicate support from House and Senate leadership.

Supporting parent’s rights in public schools passed both House & Senate committees this week. HB 241 and SB 582 would ensure parents are involved in all healthcare and counseling activities concerning their children.

Proposed legislation HB 282 Moments of Silence in Public Schools also advanced in a House committee, stipulating a mandatory moment of silence in all k-12 public schools and that teachers may not guide students in any way with the content of their time of silence.

I expect both proposals to sail through both chambers and would be signed by Governor DeSantis.

I fully support both pieces of legislation.
