St Pete: Gentleman & Gentlewoman Start Your Engines

Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”

Air Date Friday, March 8, 2024

It is springtime racing once again in St. Petersburg. The streets of downtown St. Petersburg will come alive with the roaring of Indy-class Formula 1 cars in the 20th Firestone Grand Prix.

Bon Jovi will lead the drivers just before they get the green light.

If you haven’t had a chance to attend the race, this might be your year.

The distinct winning sound of Formula 1 cars whipping by you, as opposed to the unmuffled roar of NASCAR stock cars, is an experience that can’t duplicated on television.

I like walking around the various viewing spots on the meandering track, as drivers will navigate 14 turns through the downtown streets with every lap. And be sure to identify the best passing lanes of the track, where the action can get pretty hairy.

But be ready for a crowd.

About 150,000 of your favorite friends will be joining you.
