Today the Florida Senate takes up for a second time where illegal Human Trafficking is rampant via SB 540 in the Community Affairs Committee.

SB 540 zeroes in on the prominent role Florida’s hotels and motels play in hosting Human Trafficking.

Last session this bill was killed by the motel/hotel association because of severe penalties for hotels and motels failing to report suspicious prostitution activities.

This year’s watered down version strikes out those penalties and seeks instead to require owner/operators of a public lodging establishment to implement human trafficking awareness training and policies regarding identification, prevention and reporting of suspected Human Trafficking for employees, among other provisions.

Watered down,SB 540 now has a good chance of becoming law.
