“Florida Students may be Deplatforming At School”
Every member of the House Choice and Innovation Subcommittee recently voted yes on HB 379, which would scale back access to Facebook, and Twitter and completely ban TikTok on the school board networks.
Students would not only be barred from using their cell phones during class but also have cell phones placed in a secure holding area during class time.
The only path to using their cell phones on campus to connect with social media platforms would be if they had a private mobile connection.
Also included in the bill would be lessons concerning cyberbullying, predatory behavior, and human trafficking.
I fully support this legislation; Cheating is enhanced when students have access to their cell phones, and social platforms only distract from student’s classroom participation.
This restriction has been long overdue.
