“Dog Racing Is Not A Florida Constitutional Provision”
Bill Bunkley With Something To Think About.
The Florida Constitutional Revision Commission, the CRC, is now in the midst of deliberations of what, if anything, should be recommended to voters to amend our state constitution. It is a process that occurs every 20 years.
The U. S. Constitution, as well as our Florida Constitution, are both very important foundation documents that should never be amended unless by a foundational issue. Inserting narrow, special interest provisions is not appropriate. Those should be considered for federal or state statutes.
I am concerned about numerous proposals currently being considered by the CRC. For example, the elimination of greyhound racing at dog tracks is NOT a foundational, constitutional issue. It has no business being inserted into our Florida Constitution.
The CRC should be recommending very few foundational changes, and not bending to pressure by numerous special interest groups.
