“Underage Sex-Reassignment Surgery”
The Florida Legislature has begun taking up the issue of underage “sex reassignment” surgery.
SB 254 by State Senator Clay Yarborough and HB 1421 by Randy Fine would prohibit the surgery performed on minors. A doctor who defied this provision would be subject to a felony and the forfeiture of their medical license.
Florida’s Board of Medicine and the State Board of Osteopathic Medicine have previously bared implementing puberty blockers, hormone therapies, surgeries, or treatment of gender dysphoria for anyone under 18.
Sometimes, parents seeking these therapies will state shop for the procedures. Also complicating the issue is when one parent wants the treatment for their child while the other parent objects.
Either way, underage children should not be the subjects of these extremely life-altering treatments.
