“Looking Back to the 1918 Spanish Flu Outbreak”
Bill Bunkley with Something to Think About
You have heard that knowledge is power. You have heard, “those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
No two more powerful sayings apply to the current coronavirus threat.
In 1918 the Spanish Flu plague was thought to have also originated in China. 50 to 100 million people died.
WWI returning troops brought it back to America. In Philadelphia, officials ignored the flu threat, held a huge War Bond parade with hundreds of returning veterans. As a result of the parade’s “community spread,” thousands died.
The 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak spike matches today’s potential coronavirus spike.
History is speaking today. Let’s not fail to learn from history and condemned ourselves to repeat it.
Heed history’s warning…..and we lower the contagion spike for all of us.
