Governor Rick Scott signed important legislation in Bradenton from the 2018 legislative session. Bradenton was chosen because it’s one of the state’s big problem areas for opioid abuse.
It was local Florida House Member Jim Boyd whose attentiveness and perseverance help thrust the legislation across the finish line when the bill got stalled in the final days of the session.
Doctors are now restricted to writing an opioid script for just a 3 day supply, or 7 days if a medical necessity.
That’s a big contrast from the testimony I received from a woman who was given a script for 40 tablets after minor hospital surgery, only to receive another 40 tablet script two days later after revisiting the hospital for a minor complication.
This bill is a much needed first step in combating this man-made plague.
