This morning the new and improved Howard Frankland Bridge Dedication Ceremony kicked off the Tuesday commute.
After years of navigating very narrow, ever changing temporary driving lanes across Old Tampa Bay, drivers will now enjoy the luxury of permanent smooth lanes.
The bridge across the bay was first constructed in 1960 as a single span bridge. This last iteration came with a budget of $865M announced in 2017 with construction commencing in 2020.
You can enjoy two additional express lanes in both directions plus a still under construction pedestrian and bike path.
The “low to the bay level” current northbound bridge will close and be demolished in 2026.
I wonder with so many people moving into our area how long it will take for the new span to become over capacity.
Most probably it will happen sooner than later. Enjoy it while it lasts.
