The Eclipse

Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About Commentary”

Air Date Tuesday, April 9, 2024

The long-awaited eclipse made its way across the heartland. If you were in the pathway of totality, it was a breathtaking few minutes of total darkness.

One can easily imagine the fear that must have overtaken people who lived on our planet long ago. They certainly believed that the world was coming to an end.

In some American cities, because of the massive numbers of people traveling to the narrow path, local National Guard units were mobilized to ensure public safety.

Temperatures in the totality zone dropped 10 degrees; streetlights came on as millions witnessed this astronomical event. Animals began adjusting to the nighttime only to realize it was a rapid night.

The next total eclipse will not occur in the lower 48 for another 20 years.

But if you want to experience the next total eclipse, plan to travel to Spain in 2026.
