There are times when parents need a little extra help. It may be when a job is lost; a medical condition pops up or when alcohol or drug addiction gets out of hand.
Imagine a single parent without a support system when life’s challenges get overwhelming. Letting the situation get too unmanageable could trigger an investigation by the Department of Children and Families.
Having a child removed from a home is a last resort, especially when surrogate parents are out there with a big heart for kids, willing to step in with a helping hand before it gets to the critical removal stage.
Florida Senate Bill 200 and House Bill B 363, Temporary Care of a Child, sets up safety and accountability standards for volunteers willing to help families in need.
It is legislation that has my full support.
