The Hillsborough County School Board hatched a scheme to save money and ease school bus schedules by getting high school students up earlier and in their homeroom seats by 7:15AM instead of 7:33.
The board better listen to the parents on this one, as well as health care professionals because kids need their sleep and family morning schedules are hectic already.
Parent Nelson Porter summed it up the best to the Tampa Bay Times, “An earlier start time for high school students is an absolute nonstarter.”
School Board Superintendent Jeff Eakins sent out 400 emails floating the idea, but by a 4 to 1 margin parents were clear, sink the idea.
Jeff said he is listening and I’m confident he is.
But it’s the rest of the school board members I hope aren’t hearing impaired.
Bad timing; bad idea.
