“Florida Opioid Abuse: A Public Health Emergency”

Bill Bunkley with Today’s Something To Think About

A very serious problem is ravaging Florida’s communities, leaving a path of shattered lives in its wake.

Floridians addicted to and abusing opioids such as heroin, and prescription drugs have reached epidemic levels. In announcing much needed, multiple new statewide initiatives to combat this plague, Governor Rick Scott wasn’t quite ready to call it a public health emergency.

I am.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi was just named to President Donald Trump’s Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission. She successfully shut down Florida’s pill mills and now must join Scott in taking down this menacing threat.

I’ve personally witnessed firsthand the widespread devastation on innocent newborns and children brought on by opioid prescription drug abuse by their pregnant mothers.

And that’s all I need to see to determine in my mind that opioid abuse is already a public health emergency.
