Florida Legislators have returned today to Tallahassee with more work to do rewriting new congressional districts.

Usually, after the regular 60-day session conclusion in early March, legislators seeking reelection are laser-focused on back-home campaigning activities.

But that’s not the case, as legislators must hammer out a compromise congressional redistricting plan that will please Governor DeSantis. He vetoed their version passed during the regular session.

Also, responding to a property insurance crisis not dealt with during the regular session, the DeSantis announced legislators would return to the capitol in May to deal with that issue.

The special sessions will hamper incumbents wanting to be campaigning while pleasing challengers who are happy to have them tied up outside of their district.

Bill Bunkley is a 16-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in west-central /Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities.
