“A Supreme Case of Religious Liberty”

I’m Bill Bunkley with Something To Think About.

Justice Neil Gorsuch was just getting settled in when he heard one of the most important religious liberty and taxpayer funding issues to come before the Supreme Court.

The case is Trinity Lutheran Church v. Comer. The church was denied access to Missouri state grant funds offered to entities that had playgrounds for small children. The state was offering synthetic rubber to cover existing gravel surfaces. The state refused the church’s grant request because it was a church. In turn, the church sued the state, and now the case is pending before the high court.

A majority of justices in oral arguments seemed very favorable to Trinity Lutheran’s position.

But that’s not all; the outcome may well define the admissibility of taxpayer dollars going to religious entities in many other areas, including vouchers.

A lot is riding on this one case.
