“Florida’s Budget Clock is Ticking”

To the consternation of Florida Republicans, Florida’s budget clock is ticking down with no negotiations in sight.
This week was slated to start the extended talks between Florida House and Senate conferees; however, due to Governor DeSantis's proclamation that he would veto a House plan to cut state sales taxes, the talks are stalled.
Both Governor DeSantis and Senate President Albritton agree that House Speaker Perez’s position to drop Florida’s sales tax from 6% to 5.25% is a nonstarter.
DeSantis and Albritton aim to evaluate and consider all forms of tax relief, including eliminating property taxes, before making any adjustments to the sales tax.
That means Speaker Perez is the odd man out, but he seems determined to stand his ground even if it harms the Republican brand in Florida.
Sometimes, one needs to know when to fold one's cards.
