"Governor Says No To Hard Alcohol Inside Big Box Stores"
I’m Bill Bunkley with Something To Think About.
Governor Rick Scott exercised his veto prerogative on one of the most controversial and evenly divided issues to have narrowly passed the just adjourned annual session of the Florida Legislature.
SB 106, the infamous Whiskey & Wheaties Wall bill, would have allowed hard alcohol sales on the family friendly shelves of Walmart, Target, Walgreens and other retailers.
Having lived through sensitive past family experiences with the real-life effects of the disease of alcoholism, Scott decided against adding increased alcohol consumption that would have resulted from these stores making the product more readily accessible.
I think the Governor made the right decision.
As I have stated previously, not a single constituent came to Tallahassee during the session complaining about existing availability at standalone package stores. And by a super wide margin Floridians contacting the Governor asked him for this veto.
And he obliged their request.
