There is no other country that has to be more focused and concerned with public safety than tiny Israel. Terrorist and terrorism there is an everyday fact of life.
So how do the Israelis keep schools safe?
That answer came when two members of Florida’s delegation to Israel, State Senator Lauren Book and State Rep. Randy Fine, toured an Israeli school.
What they learned was this.
Each school has two screened, trained and armed security guards. Each school has a 6’ physically secured perimeter fence, along with one entry gate and one exit gate. Each gate is always protected by an armed security guard when open. They also have an intervention program with specially equipped schools for students with emotional and psychological challenges.
It’s a simple and effective plan. And I like it.
