Fresh off veto cuts by Governor Rick Scott, Florida legislators return to Tallahassee today for a three-day special session to resume work on the state budget, which begins on July 1^st.

Florida’s House and Senate will make adjustments on almost $11.9 billion whacked out of the budget by the Governor’s veto. When compared to the total proposed budget of $82.4 billion, Scott’s carve out represents more than 13% of the entire initial allocations.  

If it all goes according to the scripted plan announced last week by House Speaker Richard Corcoran, Senate President Joe Negron, and Governor Scott, public schools will win big with increased spending of $100.00 per pupil, while state universities lose over $100 million.

And in the end, a life ring will be tossed to the state’s mismanaged twins, Enterprise Florida and Visit Florida, two of Scott’s top priorities.
