I have a question for you today. Do you have to be first in everything you do?
The American culture has programmed our brains to think we have to beat out everyone around us in all things. As a result, it has taken our natural God-given “fight or flight” instincts inherited from thousands of years of human self-protection and channels that adrenalin rush to everyday routine situations.
For example, when was the last time someone ran to jump the line in front of you at the grocery checkout? Or cut you off in traffic, forcing you to hit your breaks so they could have the first position at the traffic light?
Living the life of “Looking Out For #1” is not healthy.
If this is you, try checking out of the “Me First” lifestyle.
Instead, humble yourself and let others go first.
Bill Bunkley is a 15-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in west-central Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 24 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee.
